1. Master the Mechanics Use Pinpoint Pitching – This is still the best way to control your pitches. It gives you the tightest Perfect Accuracy Region (PAR), which is crucial when you need to hit corners perfectly in tight save situations. Leverage Bear Down – MLB The Show 26 introduces Bear Down, letting you spend a charge for boosted accuracy and slightly faster velocity. Save these for the 9th inning or when the heart of the lineup comes up with runners on base. Check Clutch Ratings – A pitcher’s Clutch rating actually matters. Higher Clutch shrinks the hitter’s inner PCI during high-pressure moments, making weak contact more likely. When picking a closer, look for high Clutch and good H/9 (Hits per 9 innings) to minimize damage. 2. Pitch Sequencing Strategy Tunnel Your Pitches – Make different pitches look the same for the first 20–30 feet. For example, a Sinker followed by a Cutter or Circle Change can fool hitters if released from the same spot but moves in different directions. Avoid Corners at First – Skilled hitters often jam their PCI to the corners. Start slightly inside the zone’s middle-thirds to create weak contact and easy pop-ups. Attack Low and Away – Especially with runners on, pitching low and away increases your chances of a double play and getting out of jams in the late innings. 3. Save Criteria & Grinding Tips Condition How It Works 3-Run Lead or Less Enter with a lead of 3 runs or fewer and pitch at least 1 inning. Tying Run on Deck Enter with a larger lead (even 5+ runs) if the tying run is on base, at bat, or on deck. 3-Inning Save In 9-inning games, finish the final 3 innings to earn a save, no matter the lead. Intentional Walk Trick – If you need a save for a mission and are up by more than 3 runs, intentionally walk hitters until the tying run is on deck, then bring in your closer to secure the save. This works great for quick Diamond Dynasty grinds. 4. Pitch Tips by Type Pitch Type Best Use Case Save Situation Tip Fastball High/In or Low/Away Use high fastballs as chase pitches to finish an at-bat. Sinker/Cutter Low in the zone Induces ground-ball double plays efficiently. Changeup Below the zone Disrupts timing after a fastball; good for weak contact. Slider Away (same-handed) Helps get swings and misses outside the zone. Pro Tip: Combine high Clutch closers with Bear Down and smart sequencing, and your saves will pile up in both missions and real games. Quick games like 3-inning Mini Seasons or Conquest maps are perfect for grinding multiple saves in just a few minutes.
